In the last seven years, I have taken an interest in the means by which we document and relay objective
data. Examples of these means include slides, captions, charts, maps, diagrams, and illustrations.
I have also been curious about the "places" where such information is normally stored and disseminated:

1) large "authorized" complexes like museums, libraries, and classrooms, etc.; and,
2) schematic representations, descriptions, and other materials in journals, dictionaries, catalogues, etc.

I use these legitimate means to create an entirely subjective environment. Through essays, drawings, and
objects, what began as an inquiry into traditional methods of display becomes a collection of unreliable
statements, headings, and illustrations. These pieces correlate but never progress in a linear or fully
descriptive narrative. True accounts mix with fictions. Reality is exaggerated. Possibilities become
impossible.

In the end, the work is diverted from the objective approach that inspired it, and it is reasserted in a
creative and personal fashion. Anatomical illustrations become moody and dark; images of real things are
obscured in heavy crosshatching. Maps of real places become almost unrecognizable with distortions and
scratches. Captions become linguistic twists. Although I fashion my installations and publications after
legitimate sources of information, I do not pretend to be an objective observer collecting and presenting
data: my ultimate goal is to create a subjective and utterly dark world.
