Claude Smith Installation
Detail from "1000 tiny Cuts", Installation by Claude Smith
During the last three years Claude took thousands of photos in down-
town Los Angeles, documenting rarely seen traces of human creative
activity -- images that tend to have a very short life span as they morph
and merge and eventually disappear forever. Among the images are
thousands of "tree writings", people's etchings of words, idiosyncratic
symbols, pictures, etc., carved into the flesh of trees who bear mute witness to the angst and passion of people living on the edge.
A.W. Gerber
"Boni Woman in a HandcraftedIndigo Bag" laser print by A.W.Gerber
Boni Woman is a female elder of the wandering Dull Dough-Face Clan.
Her identifying features are her dough covered face, her work-out clothes,
her lingerie money belt, her passport holder, prayer, and sunglass case
pendants. The handcrafted accessories displaying Boni Woman are ones recently acquired in Guatemala.

A.W. will explain what all this is about during the Artist Talk on June 28.
